Diesel fuel storage tanks for mine sites, fuel depots, fleet yards, defence bases and data centre generators. We build above-ground steel diesel tanks, from self-bunded tanks that need no bund to single-wall tanks of up to 150,000L, and double-wall underground diesel tanks in fibreglass or Glasteel II. Every tank is made in Australia at our ISO 9001 sites in NSW and WA.
Our diesel fuel storage tanks
Above-ground diesel tanks
- Self-bunded diesel tanks: the double wall is the bund. Up to 110,000L of diesel, built to AS 1940 and AS 1692.
- Fireguard® tanks: insulated double wall that passes a 4-hour fire test and can cut separation distances by up to 50%.
- Flameshield® tanks: 2-hour fire rated, with interstitial leak monitoring and a compartment for each grade.
- Single-wall horizontal tanks: 2,000–150,000L to AS 1692 Category 4, manifolded side by side for larger volumes.
Underground diesel tanks
- Double-wall FRP tanks: 2,000–110,000L, with Trucheck leak monitoring, up to 4 compartments and a 30-year corrosion warranty.
- Glasteel II tanks: 2,000–110,000L under STI licence. The FRP outer wall removes the need for cathodic protection.
Which diesel tank do I need?
Start with your site: how much diesel you need on hand, whether the tank goes above or below ground, whether you already have a bund, and how close it sits to buildings and boundaries.
| If you need | Choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A diesel tank with no bund to build, that can move later | Self-bunded diesel tank | The double wall is the bund. Up to 110,000L of diesel, built to AS 1940 and AS 1692. |
| Diesel close to buildings, such as a generator tank | Fireguard® tank | Insulated double wall that passes a 4-hour fire test and can cut separation distances by up to 50%. |
| A fire rating with diesel and petrol in one tank | Flameshield® tank | 2-hour fire rated, with interstitial leak monitoring and a compartment for each grade. |
| Bulk diesel storage in a concrete bund | Single-wall horizontal tank | 2,000–150,000L to AS 1692 Category 4, manifolded side by side for larger volumes. |
| An underground diesel tank with no corrosion | Double-wall FRP tank | 2,000–110,000L, with Trucheck leak monitoring, up to 4 compartments and a 30-year corrosion warranty. |
| An underground steel diesel tank with FRP containment | Glasteel II tank | 2,000–110,000L under STI licence. The FRP outer wall removes the need for cathodic protection. |
Diesel storage and the standards
Above-ground diesel tanks
Under AS 1940, diesel is a Class C1 combustible liquid, not a flammable liquid like petrol, so the rules on bunding, location and separation are different. Our steel diesel tanks are built to AS 1940 and AS 1692, and self-bunded tanks carry their own bund. Read our plain-English AS 1940 guide, or see all above-ground fuel tanks.
Underground diesel tanks
Underground diesel tanks are double-wall, with the space between the walls monitored for leaks, and are installed by accredited installers. Fibreglass tanks are built to UL 1316. See what AS 1692 covers, or see all underground fuel tanks.

Diesel tank FAQs
How big a diesel tank can you build?
A self-bunded tank holds from 1,000L up to 110,000L of diesel. Single-wall horizontal tanks run to 150,000L each and can be manifolded side by side for more. Underground, double-wall fibreglass and Glasteel II tanks run from 2,000L to 110,000L.
Is diesel a flammable liquid under AS 1940?
Under AS 1940, diesel is a Class C1 combustible liquid, because its flash point is above 60 °C and no higher than 93 °C. Combustible liquids are treated differently from flammable liquids such as petrol. Our plain-English AS 1940 guide explains what that means for bunding, location and separation.
Do I need to build a bund for a diesel tank?
Not with a self-bunded tank. Its integral steel bund meets State and Territory requirements, so there is no concrete or earthen bund to build and no rainwater collecting in an open bund. Single-wall tanks sit in a simple concrete bund.
Should a diesel tank go above or below ground?
Above-ground steel tanks suit mine sites, depots, generators and anywhere the tank may move later. Underground double-wall tanks suit service stations and fleet depots where the tank must sit under a driveway or out of the way. The guide above sets out which tank fits which site.
Can diesel, petrol and AdBlue share one tank?
Yes. Double-wall FRP underground tanks come with 1 to 4 completely separate compartments, depending on size. Above ground, self-bunded and Flameshield® tanks can be built with a compartment for each grade.
Can your tanks store biodiesel?
Yes. Double-wall FRP tanks are rated for biodiesel blends up to B20, and Glasteel II tanks hold blended fuels including biodiesel. Tell us the blend when you ask for a quote.
Do you make diesel tanks for data centre generators?
Yes. We build self-bunded and fire-rated steel diesel tanks sized to a generator’s runtime target. See data centre diesel storage.
