FRP catholyte tank for a chlor-alkali chemical plant

Catholyte tank for Queensland’s only chlor-alkali plant.

Background

In 2015 Coogee Chemicals expanded its chlor-alkali facility next to the Port of Brisbane. The Lytton plant produces sodium hypochlorite, hydrochloric acid and caustic soda, and is the only chlor-alkali plant in Queensland. It supplies water treatment chemicals to most of the state’s larger public pools and water treatment facilities.

Demand was rising, particularly for water treatment in the growing coal seam gas industry, and the plant needed extra capacity.

The solution

On the strength of similar tanks supplied in Western Australia, GRP Tank Solutions built a 5 m long, 3.2 m diameter FRP catholyte tank to add capacity for future demand.
