Above-ground diesel & fuel storage tanks
Steel diesel and fuel tanks for mine sites, fuel depots, defence bases and data centres. Self-bunded tanks need no bund and hold up to 110,000L of diesel. Single-wall tanks sit in a concrete bund at up to 150,000L each, vertical tanks save footprint, and Fireguard® 4-hour and Flameshield® 2-hour tanks add a fire rating. Our plain-English AS 1940 guide explains the rules.

Which diesel storage tank do I need?
Start with your site. Whether you already have a bund, how close the tank sits to buildings and boundaries, and how much ground you have will usually decide it. Bunded fuel tanks come two ways: a self-bunded tank carries its own steel bund, and a single-wall tank sits in a concrete bund that generally needs to hold at least 110% of the largest tank under AS 1940.
| If you need | Choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| No bund to build, and a tank you can move later | Self-bunded tank | The double wall is the bund. Up to 110,000L of diesel or 55,000L of petrol, built to AS 1940 and AS 1692. |
| Less space between the tank and buildings | Fireguard® 4-hour tank | Insulated double wall that is rated to the SwRI 4-hour fire test and can cut separation distances by up to 50%. |
| A fire rating with several fuel grades or a rectangular shape | Flameshield® 2-hour tank | 2-hour fire rated, with interstitial leak monitoring and compartments for each grade. Horizontal or vertical, cylindrical or rectangular. |
| Large volumes in an existing or new concrete bund | Single-wall horizontal tank | 2,000–150,000L to AS 1692 Category 4, manifolded side by side. Jet A1 and Avgas with an internal lining. |
| More storage on a small footprint, or process liquids and powders | Single-wall vertical tank | Vertical tanks and silos hold more on less ground, with an optional shop-built bund to AS 1940. |
