Background
The airport’s aircraft toilet waste dump site was relocated to make room for airfreight storage, and the pump station had to be replicated in the new location.
The challenge
The new site was beside the Cooks River on reclaimed swamp land, so the ballast had to suit permanently wet hole conditions and poor backfill. Installation had to be fast to limit dewatering costs.
The compact site stayed in use throughout construction, and as a secure site, fewer truck movements were better.
The solution
Mullaly supplied a Ø3.0 m × 5.0 m deep wet well and valve pit combo, fully fitted out with two Ø100 mm discharge Homa pumps. On site, the contractor only had to connect external pipework and electrics and install the pumps.
It took under an hour from being craned into the hole to levelled and backfilling. Cranes were on site for a short time, which cut cost and improved safety, and less dewatering was needed.
